Rékasi started his creative career 25 years ago. The 46-year-old Derecske-based artist was schooled in the “fine-art” photography of Debrecen. His investigations focused on a new narrative, the opposite of the paradigm according to which photography is the art of the moment. The past 25 years have seen him apply a fine-art attitude to the elements of the image, enquire into the photo as reality or its illusion, the problems of the easel painting as a work of art. Man is the perennial subject of his inquiries, whether he appears in the picture plane or is merely alluded to by the signs he leaves behind, often ironically, grotesquely, or in a way that begs questions. Also presented during the Debrecen exhibition will be the 50-page colour photo book that has been published for the anniversary. It contains the best of the artist’s work, and the analytical writings of art historians Zita N. Kovács and Eszter Túros.
