In the spring of 2020, thirteen young artists were admitted to the Studio of Young Photographers. Rather than a shared tenor, we conceived of a shared space as the foundation for their introductory exhibition; like so many islands, the works will be on view at the SKURC collective’s exhibition space—on Népsziget, or, the People’s Island. With its size and not entirely clean and simple setting, the studio, which used to be a change and shower room for workmen, reinforces the exhibition’s intention to present subjects that concern the individual artists—with works that are still in progress. Every artist will present their own work in the way they prefer, which means these installations will not provide contexts for each other.
