Márton Perlaki’s solo exhibition is the first presentation of a larger set of works that comprises photographs, large chalk drawings, abstract photograms, and luminograms. Perlaki’s artistic praxis is characterized by a duality of carefully planned, accurate construction and a distinctive, playfully bizarre voice. Compared to earlier works, the material presented at Trafó is a straightforward and daring move towards a personal tone that also accommodates experimentation and the unpredictable.
Márton Perlaki (1982) studied to be a press photographer, and then completed the cinematographer programme of the Hungarian Academy of Drama and Film. He was founder and picture editor of The Room magazine. He was nominated for the Paul Huf Award, FOAM’s internationally acknowledged distinction for photographers, and in 2015 he was selected to participate in the Foam Talent programme. His work is published in such prestigious magazines as Time Magazine, Vogue, Wallpaper*, M le Monde, and AnOther.
