2022 marks the 80th anniversary of Miklós Szabó’s birth and the 10th anniversary of his death. Locals still refer to Szabó as the photographer of the town of Hajdúböszörmény. He completed his training in 1960, and worked as the town’s press photographer between 1966 and 2006. He was passionate about taking photos at various events in the town and documented the history of Hajdúböszörmény over four decades in tens of thousands of photographs.

Miklós Szabó’s work was characterised by a variety of themes, and in making the panoramic photographs presented here he took full advantage of the possibilities offered by the format, whether the task was reportage, documentary or artistic imaging.

With original intuition and simple solutions, he created photos that invite us to get to know the Hajdúság, to look closely at what was closest to him: the people and the land where he lived.
